5 Powerful Promises of Divine Mercy

divinemercy

It all started in 1931 when Jesus appeared to a humble Polish nun, Sister Faustina Kowalska. He had a special mission for her—to spread the message of His incredible mercy to the whole world.

One night, Jesus appeared to her wearing a white robe, His right hand raised in blessing and His left hand pointing to His heart. From His heart flowed two radiant rays—one red, representing the blood He shed for us, and one pale, symbolizing the water that cleanses our souls. He told her to have this image painted with the words “Jesus, I trust in You” written beneath it. He promised that those who venerate this image and trust in His mercy would receive great graces.

But that wasn’t all. Through St. Faustina, Jesus also gave us the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday, offering extraordinary promises to those who embrace this devotion. Since then, countless people have experienced His mercy in powerful ways.

Let’s take a look at five powerful promises Jesus made to those who honor His Divine Mercy.

1. Divine Protection

Jesus made a powerful promise to those who venerate the Divine Mercy image:

"I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish. I also promise victory over [its] enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as My own glory." (Diary, 48)

By honoring the Divine Mercy image and trusting in His mercy, we receive His special protection and guidance, especially in our final moments.
Jesus invites us to turn to Him in every difficulty:

"The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is—trust. The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive." (Diary, 1578)

The more we trust in Him, the more He provides for our needs, spiritually and materially.

2. Complete Forgiveness

One of the greatest promises of Divine Mercy is given to those who receive the Sacrament of Confession and Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday (the Sunday after Easter). Jesus told St. Faustina:

"The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment." (Diary, 699)

This grace is often compared to a “second baptism” because it wipes away all sins and their effects.

3. Mercy at the Hour of Death

Jesus promised immense graces to the dying who trust in His mercy:

"When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, My mercy envelops the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion of My Son." (Diary, 811)

Even the most hardened sinners can receive the grace of conversion at the moment of death if they turn to His mercy.

4. Forgiveness  Over Judgment

Jesus assures that those who trust in His mercy will experience His love rather than His justice:

"He who refuses to pass through the door of My mercy must pass through the door of My justice." (Diary, 1146)

By embracing His mercy now, we can avoid the severity of His judgment later.

5. Graces for Those Who Spread Divine Mercy

Jesus encourages everyone to share the message of Divine Mercy, promising abundant blessings in return:

"Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire life as a tender mother her infant, and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Savior." (Diary, 1075)

Simply sharing the Divine Mercy message brings protection and blessings from Jesus.
